Ground faults are especially common in areas with moisture, like bathrooms or kitchens. Like short circuits, they pose a safety risk and cause the fusebox to trip.
Sometimes it’s not the wiring — it’s the appliance. A faulty toaster, washing machine, or extension lead could cause repeated tripping.

The device might have internal wiring issues, or it could be pulling more power than the circuit can handle.
Old, damaged, or poorly installed wiring can also be the culprit. Rodents, corrosion, or previous DIY electrical work can all introduce problems.

Check your fusebox to see which breaker has tripped. Most fuseboxes have labels (e.g., “kitchen sockets” or “upstairs lights”). Flip it back on and see if it trips again.
If it trips again immediately, unplug everything connected to that circuit, reset the breaker, and plug each item back in one at a time. When the breaker trips again, you’ve likely found the faulty appliance.
If your fusebox only trips when lots of devices are running at once, try spreading the load across different circuits or using fewer high-power devices simultaneously.
Look for scorch marks on plugs or sockets, buzzing noises, or smells of burning plastic — all signs of potential short circuits or overheating.
