Dedicated Electrical Supply for Appliances and Equipment

Has an air conditioning installer, kitchen fitter or appliance supplier told you that an electrician is needed?

SM Electrical Services can run and connect a suitable electrical supply from the consumer unit to the equipment.

The electrical part other installers may not provide

Many specialist contractors install the equipment itself but don’t complete the fixed electrical supply.

An air conditioning company may position and connect the indoor and outdoor units but ask the homeowner to arrange a qualified electrician for the power supply.

A larger oven or induction hob may also need a dedicated circuit rather than connection to an existing socket.

SM Electrical Services completes this electrical part of the project and can coordinate with the other installer where required.

Common dedicated supply installations

Air conditioning condensers

Run a suitable electrical supply from the consumer unit to an external condenser or other agreed air conditioning equipment.

We can liaise with the air conditioning installer to confirm the connection requirements and timing.

Induction hobs

Assess whether the existing installation can support the hob and install a suitable dedicated supply where required.

Larger ovens and cooking equipment

Provide or upgrade the electrical supply for ovens and other fixed cooking appliances that can’t safely use a standard socket circuit.

Other fixed equipment

We can assess requests for suitable domestic equipment that needs its own electrical supply, including selected heating, garden room or home improvement systems.

What does a dedicated electrical supply involve?

The work may include:

The exact scope depends on the property, cable route and equipment specification.

Avoid delays by arranging the electrical work early

Electrical supply work is often discovered late in a project, after the equipment has been ordered or the installation date has been booked.

Contacting us early allows time to assess the route, confirm the requirements and coordinate with the other contractor.

This reduces the risk of the equipment being installed but left without a suitable power connection.

Clear responsibility between trades

We’ll confirm which part of the work SM Electrical Services is completing and what remains the responsibility of the air conditioning company, kitchen fitter or appliance installer.

This page relates to the fixed electrical supply and connection.

SM Electrical Services doesn’t supply the air conditioning unit, oven, hob or other equipment unless this has been agreed separately.

Frequently asked questions

My air conditioning installer says I need an electrician. Can you help?

Yes. We can assess the electrical requirements, run the supply and coordinate with the air conditioning installer where needed.

Can you connect power to an external air conditioning condenser?

Yes, subject to assessment of the equipment requirements, consumer unit, cable route and installation conditions.

Does an induction hob need a dedicated supply?

Many induction hobs require a dedicated circuit, but the exact requirement depends on the appliance.

We’ll review the manufacturer’s information and the existing installation.

Can my current electrics support a larger oven?

This needs to be checked.

We assess the existing circuit and consumer unit before confirming whether an upgrade or new supply is required.

Will the work be disruptive?

The cable must run from the consumer unit to the equipment, so access through walls, floors, ceilings or external routes may be needed.

We explain the proposed route before work starts.

Will the work be tested and certified?

Yes. The installation will be tested, and appropriate certification will be provided where required.

Arrange the electrical supply before installation day

Send us the equipment details and tell us where it will be installed.

We’ll assess the property, coordinate with the other contractor where needed and provide a clear quotation for the electrical work.
